Packing advice
Galapagos Conservation Trust has compiled a handy packing list aimed at ensuring that travellers to the Galapagos Islands minimise their negative environmental impact. As well as guidance on what to pack, it also includes advice on the items that you really shouldn’t take to Galapagos. Local waste disposal systems in the Archipelago are struggling to cope with an influx of single-use plastic, and tourism also brings an increased threat of damaging invasive species being introduced.
A downloadable packing checklist is available on GCT’s website – please get in touch if you’re interested in creating a co-branded version for your clients.

Galápagos Islands ranked second among The New York Times’ 52 Best Destinations for 2025
The Galápagos Islands, a sanctuary of biodiversity and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, have been recognized as the second-best destination for 2025 by The New York Times. Recent changes to the Galápagos National Park entry fee, doubling to $200 for most foreign visitors aged 13 and older, mark a significant investment in preserving this iconic archipelago.
The increased revenue will bolster critical conservation efforts, protecting unique species like the giant tortoise and marine iguana while improving essential infrastructure such as waste management and medical facilities. This initiative addresses the growing pressure of land-based tourism, promoting sustainable practices to ensure the islands’ natural beauty endures for future generations.
By prioritizing sustainability, the Galápagos reaffirm their commitment to preserving the delicate balance of their environment, offering travellers an opportunity to experience this extraordinary destination responsibly and luxuriously.

The Magic of Bolivia
Magic is born as a way to interpret the inexplicable, and people turn to rituals, to attract protection, fortune, or health—conveying hope and allowing them to believe that they can influence destiny- Thus, traditions are born, carrying culture forward through generations.
One such example is the annual ALASITAS Fair in La Paz, which takes place from 24th January and lasts for a month. The central figure of this celebration is the EKEKO—the God of Abundance—a plump, smiling man with roots in Tiwanaku culture, symbolizing prosperity. He carries miniature objects such as houses, money, trucks, food, health certificates, and countless other tiny handcrafted items, believed to bring fortune to those who possess them.
Next year, please make sure to include an unmissable visit to Alasitas in your programs!

Chile’s Vineyard Harvest Season
Chile’s vineyard harvest season, known as “La Vendimia,” is a vibrant celebration of the country’s wine heritage. Typically spanning from February to May, this period is determined by the ripening of the grapes, which varies across Chile’s diverse wine regions. The season isn’t just about agriculture—it’s a cultural event. Many regions host lively wine festivals, where locals and visitors gather to enjoy traditional music, dance, and, of course, fine wines. Travelers can often participate in grape stomping and savor expertly crafted wine pairings with local cuisine. This unique blend of culture, tradition, and natural beauty.

The Andean Cat in Patagonia: A Hidden Treasure
The Andean cat (Leopardus jacobita), one of the world’s most endangered felines, roams the remote landscapes of Patagonia, thriving in extreme conditions. Known as the “ghost of the Andes” due to its elusive nature, its conservation is crucial. At The Singular Patagonia, we monitor its presence using camera traps, capturing rare glimpses of this sacred feline in its natural habitat. Revered by Andean cultures, the Andean cat symbolizes the deep connection between nature and history. Protecting it means preserving Patagonia’s delicate ecosystem.

Tropic Travel
Winter Travel in Patagonia
One way of combating over-tourism is to visit a destination outside of high season. At Tropic, we love the wonders of Patagonia in winter – guests enjoy a magical time of year with fewer tourists. Popular sites like Torres del Paine and Los Glaciares National Park are nearly empty, offering a peaceful, immersive experience with trails and viewpoints to yourself. Patagonia’s stunning landscapes are frosted in snow, creating a breathtaking winter wonderland. It is also easier to spot wildlife in the winter and the shorter days make the ‘golden hour’ light last longer, making for the best sunrises and sunsets (and amazing photography!). Another benefit is that many luxury lodges offer off-season rates and exclusive, intimate experiences. If your travellers would enjoy Patagonia in winter, contact Tropic to plan.

Beyond the vendimias, exploring a nearby winery offers a deeper dive into Chile’s winemaking traditions. Year-round wine tours provide guided tastings and insights into the country’s renowned vineyards.

We’re pleased to announce our recent certification by Preferred by Nature, marking another milestone in our ongoing commitment to sustainable tourism. This recognition from one of the world’s leading sustainability organizations validates our efforts to minimize environmental impact while maximizing benefits to local communities.
The certification process pushed us to examine and improve every aspect of our operations, from waste management to community engagement. For us, this achievement is a reflection of our core beliefs that adventure tourism must actively contribute to conservation and community wellbeing.

Paddington Bear has arrived in Machu Picchu Town (Aguas Calientes)
A new Paddington statue is the latest attraction in the town, where national and international tourists, whether arriving or returning from the Inca citadel, can take a picture with this charming replica of the lovable bear.
The sculpture was unveiled on January 23 at Alameda Los Artesanos (Artisans’ Promenade) by municipal authorities and the British Ambassador to Peru, Gavin Cook.
The launch of the film captivated audiences around the world, and that’s why this “character” is the perfect addition for visitors looking to complete their Machu Picchu experience.
