Aqua Expeditions

Aqua Expeditions’ Mission to Conserve Aquatic Biodiversity

Since our first expeditions in 2007, we’ve been dedicated to protecting the biodiversity of the remote destinations we sail. With marine pollution and climate change threatening ecosystems worldwide, we take our responsibility to protect them seriously.

Over the past year, we’ve made meaningful strides by partnering with global and regional organizations and refining our operations in pursuit of sustainability. Our partnership with 4Ocean has helped remove nearly 20,000 pounds of waste from the world’s waterways, while our collaboration with the Charles Darwin Foundation supports conservation research in the Galapagos Islands. Additionally, on our vessels in the Peruvian Amazon, we’ve reduced single-use plastics by 90% and are working to implement similar changes across our fleet.

What to do during winter in Chile?

Even in winter (June to September), Chile offers plenty of opportunities for both adventure and relaxation. Travelers can embrace the cold by heading south, where they can go on a winter W Trek or track pumas in Torres del Paine National Park. Other options south of Santiago include skiing and snowshoeing. Flexibility is key, as the weather can be unpredictable.

For those looking to escape the cold, the northern part of the country offers warmer alternatives, such as vineyard tours in the Elqui Valley or exploring the diverse landscapes of the Atacama Desert.

Patagonia in winter

Patagonia is a magical place, and its magic is even more pronounced during winter (late Apr to mid-Sept). The trails that are most popular during the summer become quiet in winter, while the wildlife leave aside their high season shyness to make the area their own once again. To take advantage of winter’s wonders, Tropic has created a wildlife-focused program – along with expert guides from the area guests will enjoy Patagonia all to themselves and increase their chances of seeing the region’s wild animals. All while enjoying the exclusivity of one of few places that remain open during the winter, Estancia Cerro Guido, whose conservation programs let guests enjoy the wildlife and also get close to the glaciers.
